Haarlem in Oorlogstijd plot

This documentary centers on preserving the last tangible memories of the Second World War in the city of Haarlem. Now that the generation that consciously experienced the war is slowly disappearing, it is more urgent than ever to capture their stories for the future. The film portrays the personal and often poignant testimonies of twenty Haarlem residents who grew up during the occupation.

Certainly a must-see for residents of Haarlem, featuring sometimes poignant testimonies from people who often experienced the horrors of the war as children.

Unfortunately, the footage is used rather haphazardly; for example, a photo from the mobilization in 1943 appears, while for the same year we see a video clip of the German entry in 1940.

Incorrect dates are being mentioned. The death of Hitler, for example, April 30, and not May 2, and even the end of the war in Europe, May 8. On May 5, only the Germans in the Netherlands surrendered.

Twice it refers to the beginning of the Two-Front War, but June 22, 1941, the day of the invasion of the Soviet Union, is generally regarded as such, and that date is precisely not mentioned.

So what, you might say. It is about the message, and that is, of course: let us never again be harnessed to the wagon of raving lunatics, let us never again be led by hatred for the other. Niemals Wieder, never again.
