A short film set in a strange, absurd, and mysterious world. A world where kissing and other forms of intimacy are forbidden and punishable by death. In Paris, in an unspecified time, saleswoman Malaise works in a classy clothing store. She develops a romantic bond with customer Angine. The clothes Angine buys are paid for in slaps, which Malaise administers to her. The more expensive the garment, the more slaps. A jealous colleague watches to see if Malaise is following the rules.

The film was shot digitally but has a pleasant celluloid look. The black-and-white photography and the setting create a chilling and dystopian atmosphere. Very unique and intriguing. Directors and writers Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh create a world of their own with just a few strokes of the pen, doing so without explaining the rules that apply there. With every new absurd element of behavior, the viewer must unravel the laws governing it within this peculiar society.

Excellent acting by the two main characters, who draw the viewer into that cold, strange world with their nuanced performances. Their interactions are coolly passionate. It is suspenseful. As a viewer, you sense with pinpoint accuracy that something is about to happen between them that is not permitted. Something that derails. Something that has consequences. It is a compellingly exciting game that the two women play. Two attractive women, by the way, just to make it easier for the viewer to share the cool passion and tension.

And yes, something does indeed happen in the end. Let me just say that the ending of the film is as surprising as it is absurd.
