Good film about a camerawoman working for a news channel in Kabul. The film takes place during the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. The tone is somewhat uneven, but that is almost unavoidable with a story and setting like this. There are a number of excellent dialogues, and the position of women is strongly highlighted here.

Sadat shines as director, screenwriter, and lead actress in this powerful portrayal of Afghanistan around 2020. She plays a camera operator for a “women’s program” who gets a chance to prove herself as a camera journalist when Kabul News’ star reporter [Anwar Hashimi] is forced to assign her to a dangerous job. She receives compliments and recognition for her craftsmanship. Meanwhile, she is trapped in an unhappy marriage with a “typical Afghan” [Masihullah Tajzai]. Hope for a better future is jeopardized when President Biden announces the withdrawal of American troops in 2021. The shifts in tone and atmosphere parallel those of life in Afghanistan, particularly in the emotional climax.
