A film in which death plays a significant role, with a morgue providing the setting. Isaac, who is not adept at interacting with the living, runs the morgue. Isaac has visions in which dead women come back to life. This is a clear sign that the withdrawn Isaac isn't entirely grounded in the real world. Loneliness could play a role, although the film doesn't specifically mention it. What is certain is that he is socially isolated and that his mind perceives things that aren't there. Isaac is a strange figure, and remains so for the viewer, who finds few elements of recognition in him.

When he meets the waitress Cassi, the reserved Isaac opens up a bit, and the film seems to develop into a film about the outsider experiencing a blissful rebirth. A standard rom-com with a slightly morbid edge, given the outsider's postmortem activities. But the viewer doesn't get away that easily. The film allows the situation to escalate in unexpected ways. Original and morbid, but not very exciting.

The visions lend the film a surreal touch. While sometimes interesting, their placement is somewhat haphazard. Eventually, you shrug and think, "Oh yeah, we're in a vision again." The film holds up because it takes a different direction than expected. Visually, the film occasionally reveals interesting things. The acting is good, which also helps.

However, I don't develop any connection with the characters, and there's no real empathy, so it really doesn't matter whether there's a positive or less positive ending. I was overcome by a feeling of "it'll be alright" at the end.
