Presidentin Kyyditys plot
In October 1930, after a night of drinking, a group of top officers from the Finnish army decides to kidnap the retired first president of Finland, Ståhlberg. The Finnish people are divided in the aftermath of the civil war, and the political atmosphere is turbulent and tense. However, the kidnapping goes awry from the start when the incompetent accomplices recruited for the job are forced to take the president's headstrong wife, Ester Ståhlberg, with them.

A comedy that never gets funny, that’s where it ends. Concept-wise, this film is in the vein of Fargo and similar films where things don't run entirely smoothly. However, the humor that is supposed to stem from that just doesn't get going, and the actors' timing isn't good either. Visually, it's a bit dull too. Otherwise, the acting is reasonably good, and they manage to come across as quite serious, which is necessary for a good comedy. The pacing is also more than okay; the already short 80 minutes even feel relatively fast. So I wasn't really bored, but that's about it. I was far from entertained. 2.0*.

A rather corny comedy about the true, very clumsy fascist coup attempt and kidnapping of the president (Pertti Sveholm) and his wife (Riitta Havukainen) in Finland in 1930. It is quite reminiscent of The Death of Stalin in terms of humor style or a weaker episode of the World War I part of Blackadder, especially since coup leader Kurt Wallenius (Aku Sipola) is a sort of fascist, alcoholic version of General Melchett.
The film has its strong moments, but more often than not, it falls just short in terms of both the film's pacing and the actors' comedic timing. It never really gets tedious, but it is all a bit sluggish. Lead actor Jussi Vatanen (Fallen Leaves) and Havukainen stand out in a positive way.
I think that this film, which seems to have been made very much for the local market, was only released in the Netherlands because there is also some Dutch money in it.
