In 1991, Marko [Dejan Cukic] and Vera [Nada Sargin] trade their hopeless existence in Yugoslavia to build a new life in Denmark with the help of Marko's sister [Dubravka Drakic]. Due to lack of space, they take only their nearly 6-year-old daughter Maja [Tara Cubrilo] and leave their older sons behind with relatives. Initially, it focuses primarily on Marco, who tries to navigate his way in a country with a completely different culture in a sometimes clumsy manner without speaking Danish. It becomes more interesting when it focuses on Maja, who adapts more easily to the circumstances but misses her brothers. Cubrilo is disarming and completely natural in this credible, poignant portrait of a desperate immigrant family searching for a home, with modest supporting roles by Trine Dyrholm and Claes Bang.
