A witty and effective adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, in which a miller [Mark Cook] ascribes magical powers to his daughter Evalina [Hannah Baster-Eve] in the hope that the king [Colin Malone] will choose her as his fifth (!) wife. When the king demands that Evalina demonstrate her magical powers, she receives help from a devilish elf [Joss Carter]. But she has to do something to get it! The low budget explains the low production values, but the modern approach, the excellent performances of Baxter-Eve and Joss Carter, and the beautiful makeup of Georgia Brown make this a fine alternative to the often overproduced, tame Disney fairy tale films.
