Je N'avais Que le Néant - Shoah par Lanzmann plot

The making of Claude Lanzmann's film "Shoah" is an adventure in itself. Twelve years of work, thousands of hours of preparation, travels to the far corners of the world, dozens of witnesses, and just as many doubts, setbacks, wrong turns, but also moments of painful grace when the truth comes to light. Through 220 hours of unused footage and the author's memoirs, Guillaume Ribot delves into the heart of the production of a major film, close to the obsessions of the man who set out to make the truth rise from nothing.

From 1972 to 1984, Claude Lanzmann traveled the world collecting footage for Shoah, the definitive document of the destruction of the Jews during World War II. Forty years after the premiere of that 10-hour monumental masterpiece, Ribot uses unused footage and excerpts from Lanzmann's biography to reconstruct the painful, arduous, and deeply personal making of Shoah. In this way, he explains the radical visual and content-driven form of Shoah, but also the tricks and deceptions Lanzmann had to employ, among others, to persuade Simon Srebnik, Abraham Bomba, and Franz Suchomel to share their stories with him. Perhaps unnecessarily: first watch Shoah, then this compelling making-of.
