Bride of the Covenant plot
19th-century Vietnam. The young bride, Nhai, marries a member of the wealthy and prestigious Vu family. Suffocated by a blood-sealed marriage vow and the family's strict yet bizarre code of conduct, she eventually witnesses the desires and curses festering within the household. At its root lies an unbreakable pact the family has made with the tree god. In the dead of night, strange vibrations running along the beams of the old mansion make the tree god's presence all the more terrifying.

Vietnamese folklore horror.
Not the most original horror film. A bit of a mix of Thai/Indonesian folklore and Chinese stylization, but the jumble works well, and the execution is simply very good. It looks visually pleasing, has a great soundtrack, solid acting, and some nice details.
The structure is otherwise classic, and if you're not a fan of this kind of horror film, you won't find anything interesting here. But the popularity of this type of film is limited these days, and it's been a while since I'd seen a truly good one. A welcome discovery.
