"A good goodbye... It's all that matters."
Around the holidays, four adult siblings and their exasperated father brave the chaos that follows the unexpected death of their mother, June. A decent film about a family where the mother is dying and everyone is saying goodbye. This directorial debut by Kate Winslet, written by her son, is a bit dull. The second half certainly has some beautiful moments, thanks mainly to the excellent cast. Just shy of 3.5 stars.
Sometimes it reminded me a bit of His Three Daughters, which I really liked better.

A typical directorial debut from a well-known actor, in this case Kate Winslet. The acting of the entire cast is largely unexceptional, but the setting is limited (and visually uninteresting), and the script gradually but surely bogs down in melodramatic situations that are just a little too cozy. The ending, in particular, is tooth-chilling.
