Goodbye June plot

"A good goodbye... It's all that matters."

Around the holidays, four adult siblings and their exasperated father brave the chaos that follows the unexpected death of their mother, June. They are suddenly forced to reckon with the potential loss during what should be the most wonderful time of the year. However, the astute June is clever enough to orchestrate her demise on her own terms, with humor, brutal honesty, and abundant love for her family in what may be her final moments.

A decent film about a family where the mother is dying and everyone is saying goodbye. This directorial debut by Kate Winslet, written by her son, is a bit dull. The second half certainly has some beautiful moments, thanks mainly to the excellent cast. Just shy of 3.5 stars.

Sometimes it reminded me a bit of His Three Daughters, which I really liked better.

After yet another hospital stay, it becomes clear that June [Helen Mirren] doesn't have much time left. Her live-in adult son [Johnny Flynn] informs his sisters Julia [Kate Winslet], Molly [Andrea Riseborough], and Helen [Toni Collette] that they need to come as soon as possible. Together, they must help June through her final days and prepare her father Bernie [Timothy Spall] for the worst. Of course, some old wounds remain in this sentimental drama on paper, which is only held together by the impressive cast. A rather unremarkable directorial debut for Winslet.
