"My Way" is a timeless classic that has been played at weddings, funerals, and birthdays for decades. This documentary explores the song's history, told from the perspective of the song itself, performed by Jane Fonda. Originally written as "Comme d'habitude," it was translated and adapted by Paul Anka for Frank Sinatra, who recorded it in a single take. The "Sinatra" story is somewhat familiar to me, so this documentary adds little that is new.

And, dear filmmakers and dear Jane, for me and for many, "My Way" remains inseparably linked to Frankie Boy.

In France, Claude François had a major hit with "Comme d'Habitude" in late 1967. A year later, Frank Sinatra scored a worldwide hit with an English-language version for which Paul Anka wrote the lyrics. While this documentary suggests it's exploring the many facets of "My Way," it dedicates most of its time to the song's origins, with Gilles Thibaut, the original lyricist, being given a pass. The choice to use Jane Fonda as the song's vocalist is a gimmick that Azuelos and Teson rarely exploit.
