Larry [Barry Primus] and Joan [Betty Buckley] have been married for 65 years when they die shortly after each other and arrive in dramatically rejuvenated versions (played by Teller and Olsen) at a kind of way station where they have a maximum of a week to choose an "eternity." Larry naturally believes they will be together forever, until he discovers that Joan's fallen ex-husband [Callum Turner] has been waiting for her for 67 years. Inspired by Powell & Pressburger's A Matter Of Life And Death, but the magic is missing. Freyne fails to choose between drama and comedy, making it unbalanced and failing on either front. The running gag about advertising possible eternities is amusing for a while, but eventually becomes tiresome. Olsen, moreover, has little experience with comedy, as is evident from her mannered performance.

Artificial romance. The concept is quite funny, but the execution is rather weak. I don't really care which man Olsen chooses. That took way too long, the film takes too long, it felt like it lasted forever. This film is also the ultimate atheistic view of life from a modern American perspective, where you never die and death is an endless vacation. When you die, you end up on a modern train and get to spend the night in a luxury apartment complex and choose your eternity. American, of course! Take another Xanax, American, and cure your depression. A perfect example of modern, weak people in an empty society where death is completely banished. It's as if death doesn't exist and people don't die, but it does, and we all die, and it's not a luxurious vacation you're on. And in this film, death isn't even death; it's simply life.

Of course, you don't have to take the concept seriously, although this film isn't exactly a comedy either. They try to be funny here and there, but they could have made it funnier. I don't know if Elizabeth Olsen is a bad actress or if she's simply incapable of facial expressions due to Botox or an illness. Either way, the film is far too long, an eternity, even though it is an original take on romcoms.

A fun rom-com set in the afterlife. The script unfolds predictably, and the visuals are rather unremarkable, but the excellent cast makes it enjoyable, with some very funny supporting roles. Da'Vine Joy Randolph and John Early are especially hilarious as the bickering "advisors."
