Quite a few films have emerged from Norway in recent years about the history of World War II, and they're generally excellent—apparently, the bar is set quite high, and what also helps is that the details of that part of wartime history aren't very well known in our country. Yet, it turns out, there's still a lot to tell. This specific topic was also touched upon in the broader review of Kongens Nei (2016), but Blucher (2025) focuses more on the Battle of the Drøbaksonde and Birger Eriksen's role in it.

Director Fahre places a strong emphasis on the Norwegian side of the story—taking considerable time with the hesitant and hesitant political and military developments. To further emphasize this, he also creates a framework with the post-war investigative committee, which was certainly not convinced of the correctness of his actions—though not in the way he himself had envisioned at the outset. As far as a quick glance at (Norwegian) Wikipedia can verify, Fahre adheres fairly closely to the currently available facts.

Eriksen is played with a suitably old-fashioned and patriarchal air by Bjørn Sundquist, who portrays him as a somewhat grumpy old warhorse who only thaws a bit when his daughter is around. That, along with the beautiful scenes of the old fort in action, make the film worthwhile.
