A Samurai in Time plot

At the end of the Edo period in Kyoto, samurai Shinzaemon Kosaka prepares to fight a ronin during a stormy night. When he is struck by a flash of light, he awakens in the present. There, Shinzaemon is mistaken for an extra on a film set. Because of his appearance and speech, he begins to work on many productions, where he appears as a swordsman who has to die spectacularly on film.

Comedy is always difficult; it's so culturally determined! In this film about a typically Asian cultural phenomenon (the samurai), I didn't find the comedy part particularly funny. This is my fault, and my lack of cultural context. Still, this is an entertaining film, and oh well, time-traveling samurai is a fun concept. I do like the ending, though. All in all, a good film, so 3.5 stars.
