Nice, but a little less nice than I had hoped.
The necessary greats from that time like Nile, Jellybean and the inevitable Nicky Siano are always interesting but the documentary is a bit too much larded with the (perhaps understandable) New York gay scene of that time and that interests me less than the actual music. Would have liked to see a bit more of the latter actually.
Oh yes and don't forget kids: House is Disco's revenge!

A must-see snapshot of the times, which clearly demonstrates how the influence of music can connect people, allowing them complete freedom of being. Straight, gay, white, black, etc., it didn't matter in those days. Mancuso puts it beautifully: "We are all spiritually connected; you can't capture anything that's free." And the right-wing camp in the U.S.A. had a hard time with that freedom. Ultimately, disco still exists in old, new, and edited/sampled/remixed forms. The film is interesting, but could have explored the music itself in more depth, in combination with the clubs. Nicky Siano and Nile Rodgers are top-notch, as they experienced the scene. And yes... burning disco records, etc.... the Nazis didn't do that to cultural heritage either... Furthermore... wanting to make money from everything destroys a lot... Easy to watch. 4*
