Xie Mall plot

Golden Treasure Plaza, once a popular commercial hub, is now a dilapidated shopping mall slated for demolition. One of the last remaining shopkeepers is Sam, an injured stuntman who runs a video store with almost no customers. On the day that Sam’s beloved daughter Yan comes to visit, disaster strikes when a shopkeeper accidentally opens a supernatural barrier in the mall’s basement. When a mysterious gas is released that turns people into murderous, flesh-eating zombies, a battle for Hong Kong’s survival begins.

I picked this up at random at IFFR, but it turned out well. Possession Street or Xie Mall has a nice retro vibe, not only because of the setting in a run-down mall that has seen better days, but there is also a combination of horror and comedy that was also popular in Hong Kong in the 80s and 90s. Otherwise not a very surprising film, but a more than entertaining genre exercise.
