A reasonably strong sci-fi thriller. The story is quite well-crafted. The execution is also well-done. From the very beginning, the film is captivating, and as a viewer, you have no idea where it's going. The film isn't particularly spectacular, but it shines in its simplicity. Unfortunately, the film veers off course a bit in the last 15 minutes and loses its power. Had it stopped 15 minutes earlier, the ending would have been emotional and powerful, leaving the viewer to decide for themselves how to interpret it. Otherwise, the acting is excellent, and the visuals are simple yet effective. Almost a gem. 3.5

At the beginning of the film, you think you're dealing with a standard revenge thriller. When protagonist Irene keeps assassinating the same person, you realize the situation is a bit more complicated. It then becomes clear that she jumps between parallel worlds, always pulling off the same trick. Redux Redux is indeed a revenge thriller, but a revenge thriller that consistently targets the same person.

That doesn't sound like a film that's overly varied. Doesn't that get boring? No, because the various situations are varied, the action is good, and the introduction of a third character heightens the hectic pace and tension. In that regard, don't expect too much from the various parallel worlds. I barely saw any difference between them. It would have been nice to be able to identify odd anomalies and have them lead to unexpected, strange, and exciting situations, but the film sticks to a familiar setting.

Besides the revenge motif, grief plays a role. Besides being a revenge thriller, Redux Redux is a drama. A drama about a woman who hasn't yet come to terms with her daughter's death. In fact, the film focuses more on Irene's story and her need to free herself from a senseless and endless situation than on her actual mission. Irene is played superbly by Michaela McManus, who, incidentally, is the sister of the film's director and writer, Kevin and Matthew McManus. She is convincing in both the action scenes and the more dramatic scenes.

Redux Redux isn't a cheerful film. Many moments are exceptionally somber. So somber that you wonder if the darkness will ever end. Fortunately, the film offers the viewer glimmers of hope that there's a chance the darkness will lift. I needed that hope.

Unlike some others here, I found it an entertaining film, and even if you haven't read the plot, you still encounter some pleasant surprises. Of course, there are things that make you wonder, "Why could a director and/or writer overlook this?", but that's more the rule than the exception these days.

Nevertheless, the film captivated me (and a friend).

(although before this film we watched a really bad horror movie, the name of which I don't even remember...haha)
