In this Australian-made, animated space adventure, things aren't exactly subtle. The lesbian princess of the title hails from the planet Clitopolis and clashes with straight white mail. A word that combines men and aliens. A group that practices involuntary sexual abstinence and has no idea how to treat women. The group wants to get their hands on the royal Labrys. A double-headed axe that symbolizes lesbianism in the gay community. The axe is said to act as a chick magnet.

It's clear. Lesbian Space Princess is a self-deprecating film. But not just a self-deprecating film. The film is also direct, dry, amusingly banal, and hectic. A madcap space opera. Nice. Lesbian themes are treated with cheerful lightheartedness. And (I'd almost add, of course) other kinds of relationships (with male involvement) are portrayed as toxic. Also nice. Luckily, I have a self-deprecating sense of humor. A successful humor, as far as I'm concerned.

The film gets off to a blistering start. Lots of ideas, lots of wild events. After consuming all the ideas and events in a rapid and short time, I was satiated. And so was the film. After a while, the events, ideas, and characters aren't as exciting as they were at the beginning. It's a bit stale. The excitement has worn off. It would have been better to save some steam for the later part of the film. Now I felt like I'd eaten too fast and too much. I didn't feel like dessert anymore, which, while edible, looked less than delicious. Despite my diminishing appetite, Lesbian Space Princess is, overall, decent entertainment.
