Azar Nafisi, a professor at the University of Tehran, secretly gathers seven of her female students to read classics of Western literature banned by the regime. With fundamentalists in power, these women gather, remove their veils, and discuss their hopes, their loves, and their place in an increasingly oppressive society. For them, reading Lolita in Tehran is a celebration of the liberating power of literature.
