Islands plot
At a luxury resort, Tom is working as a tennis coach when a new family moves into the hotel. Their presence gives the coach the chance to escape his life. But when the husband disappears without a trace, both his wife and Tom are suspected.

Thriller? I must have been watching a different film. It felt more like a psychological drama to me. The atmosphere itself was fine, the acting too. Just a bit of a strange story. Still, those two hours flew by. Just because you spend most of the movie thinking: "And now it's going to happen..." and then suddenly there it is... the credits!

The unbearable lightness of being a tennis pro in paradise.
Imagine having to lie on a beach like that with Stacy Martin. Man, oh man, what a nightmare. It's just unbearable. You'd kill yourself for less.
Full marks for the masterful cinematography and the brilliant color grading. Was there any story, any message? Oh yeah, something with a romantic plot or something. It doesn't really do it for me, I think. Too much "den Leiermann," too much "das Leiden des Jungen Werthers."

Burned-out tennis instructor Tom (Sam Riley) teaches tourists by day and drinks himself silly by night. One day, femme fatale Anne (Stacy Martin) convinces him to make room in his schedule for her young son (Dylan Torrell). When Anne's husband (Jack Farthing) suddenly disappears, Tom would have been wise to cut all ties with Anne. Why he doesn't remains a mystery in this mediocre modern film noir, the denouement of which isn't as predictable as it seems. Unfortunately, that's not a recommendation.
