I saw Drommer in the smallest cinema in the Netherlands (it's in Middelburg, just look it up).

At first, I had a hard time getting into it. The first half hour is very heavy on voiceover text. But after that, the film flowed, and the story came to life.

Without giving too much away, I'd like to point out that this film is essentially an innovative kind of rom-com, but Danish-style. The reference to the Bronte sisters is particularly clever.

The actresses playing the grandmother, mother and granddaughter are excellent, especially the exceptionally intelligent 17-year-old granddaughter, played by Ella Overbye, who carries the film.

Best scene: Grandma's dream at the end with that group of dancers on a lighted staircase.

Drømmer is the last in the series that preceded Sex and Love. We hear and see her adventures, accompanied by an almost constant voiceover from protagonist Johanne, played more than sublimely by Ella Øverbye. While it seems innocent when she describes her youthful infatuation in her diary, the question quickly arises as to whether it was all so innocent. Because falling in love is one of the most beautiful things you experience in life, it's only natural that you want to share it with others. Johanna does just that, and lets her grandmother read her diary.

It's beautiful to see the girl's love, but at the same time, be sure to pay attention to all the facial expressions of the grandmother and mother. As a viewer, you might wonder if it all really happened the way Johanna described in her diary. The goodwill factor is incredibly high, but we quickly realize that things didn't go as you'd like.

The film concludes with a disturbing conversation in a café, followed by a hallucinatory dream of the grandmother, who was clearly incredibly jealous of her granddaughter's love story. A fantastic piece of cinema with a wonderful soundtrack. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and Sex and Love is definitely at the top of my watch list.
