Kader Abdolah - Ouder Worden Is Prachtig plot

Kader Abdolah flees Iran in 1988, quickly learns Dutch and becomes a prominent writer. Abdolah talks about his youth in Iran, where he discovered literature, and the pain of his forced departure. He learned Dutch through children's books and starts writing, finding freedom by leaving his mother tongue behind. The documentary shows his integration and the balance between new identity and culture.

Hossein Sadjadi Ghaemmaghami Farahani grew up in a strict Islamic region of Iran where he first came into contact with literature at the age of twelve. Books were his window to the outside world and changed his worldview. He studied in Tehran, joined an underground left-wing party and wrote an illegal magazine under the pseudonym Kader Abdolah. In 1985 he had to flee Iran and since 1988 he has lived in the Netherlands. He speaks fluent Dutch, so it is somewhat frustrating that this word artist has to proclaim his interesting reflections on his life and the world here in broken English.
