"You must pay the full price"

Once a year, estranged brothers Michael and Peter reluctantly visit the old fairground where their friend Sam went missing when they were children. Both men’s lives have been marked by the day Sam was swallowed up by the Ghost Train and never returned. This year, Michael has something to tell Peter that will have an even greater impact than that fateful day thirty years ago.

First film by Lee Cronin. Who, as a master of remakes, did later make some decent films. Why he mainly makes remakes is clear, as evidenced by the wafer-thin plot of this short film. He doesn't exactly have very original ideas of his own. Still, it is skillfully made and quite atmospheric. But it was all a bit too predictable for me. 2.5 stars

A short film by director Lee Cronin, who also conceived the story. It tells of two brothers who visit an old haunted house to commemorate the fact that their friend disappeared there without a trace during their childhood. Despite its short running time, the film manages to imbue the two characters with an interesting, sad layer. A sad layer that can be traced back to the unresolved event from all those years ago.

The atmosphere is ominous. The haunted house looks dilapidated but also unpredictable. It appears as if the decay is merely a cover. As if evil still lurks somewhere beneath the decay. It is an atmosphere that screams for a frivolous or provocative action from one of the two sadly layered characters. It is suspenseful.

Although the events that follow are rather conventional, the film retains its fine dark atmosphere. The unsurprising events, which are otherwise quite good, do not detract from this.
