I actually went into the film with a blank slate. I only half-followed the news items and perhaps didn't even plan on watching it in the cinemas. I had a preconceived idea about the film of the Brussels hellhole, where the plot revolves around some street urchins and their criminal activities. The film also opens with a number of (burnt) one-liners from famous people about the city. So I was already bracing myself.

I was terribly mistaken there. This is not a crime film at all, but rather a layered drama. Perhaps a bit romanticized, but not at all bad. In fact, there is no violence in the film at all. Only the police get a bit of a raw deal, three times.

Interesting that little touch about radicalization and the associated open ending, from which I do not expect the meek Tarek to radicalize. The second film about Brussels city in a short time. La Nuit Se Traîne (Film, 2024) is a different genre, but with a number of the same set scenes such as the public glass elevator.

Mainly drama, but here and there also a funny light note, largely coming from the youngest of the cast. Nice that class thing, that crush, the wanting to impress. Finally, I found the cage fight a disappointment. I thought it was rather messy on screen. For the rest a fine film.
