I didn't see this biopic coming. A very pleasant surprise. The story of Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles and one of the biggest contenders for the title Fifth Beatle. Fortunately, they are also present in the film, what would an Epstein film be without the fab four! We get to see the early days of the group and it portrays the group quite well. A quartet of young teenagers, early twenties who come from rough Liverpool and mainly played in a dark bar in Germany. But thanks to Epstein they did become big. The Beatles are young playful guys with a sometimes foul mouth and a heart on their sleeve.

Those who are somewhat familiar with The Beatles and Epstein will not see much new. But Epstein does deserve his own film. And both the setting and the performances are quite well done. A very pleasant film that you should see as a music lover. It takes you back to the 60s for a moment.

Was the manager who helped The Beatles to the top really a boorish, colorless, pathetic introvert? If so, this biopic is historically accurate, but still terribly boring. Fortune-Lloyd plays the role of Brian Epstein, who swaps his role as manager of a music store for that of manager of The Beatles after they fail to play The Cavern in Liverpool. Time and again we hear that Brian works very hard, but we mainly see him at ease in offices or in a restaurant, chatting about this and that. Epstein's homosexuality and addiction to pills are long a side issue in this Wikipedia biography of a man whose importance we have to infer mainly from the praise of others, not from what we get to see of him here. Jonah Lees, Blake Richardson, Leo Harvey-Elledge and Campbell Wallace are amusing as John, Paul George and Ringo, but Stephenson was not allowed to use Beatles music and so has to make do with creditable recorded covers of covers like 'Besame Mucho'.

Good film about a businessman who becomes the manager of a starting rock band. A biopic about Brian Epstein who is of course known as the manager of The Beatles. An interesting enough life story and not only because of The Beatles. The film is easy to watch, but a bit of a shame that there are no songs by The Beatles in it. A narrow 3.5 stars.
