Dwars plot

After a boating accident during filming on a sailing ship in the Caribbean, Katelijne Langezaal is given the devastating diagnosis of spinal cord injury. She is expected to never be able to walk again and her world collapses. But then she decides not to accept life in a wheelchair.

Filmmaker Katelijne Langezaal suffered a spinal cord injury in a sailing accident. Since the chance of a full recovery is negligible, healthcare in the Netherlands focuses primarily on increasing self-reliance. However, Katelijne is determined to be among the 1% who can walk again after a spinal cord injury and manages to have her health insurer reimburse the costs for 'Project Walk', an American institute in California that achieves remarkable results. A somewhat narcissistic documentary with the central message that with time, money and friends who have time to care for you, you can go a long way. Good for Katelijne, but I doubt that the average spinal cord injury patient will be much more hopeful after watching it. Moreover, it ends as a shameless commercial for Neuromove, the therapy center that Katelijne set up in the Netherlands with the help of 'Project Walk'.
