Tussen Wal en Schip plot
Three third-generation Indo youngsters take their grandparents back to the Lloydkade, where they arrived some 75 years ago during the repatriation from the former Dutch East Indies. While the last witnesses talk about the crossing, their story is passed on to the new generation through reconstructions, shadow play and projections on the walls of the quay. What does it mean to feel neither Indo nor Dutch? What was the integration like, but also the discrimination in the Netherlands? And what does the grandparent want to pass on to the grandchild, now that the silence has finally been broken?
