"THE SAME CANALS. NEW BLOOD."
After 37 years, the canals of Amsterdam are once again blood red. Tara Lee is a young, ambitious detective of the Amsterdam police who is confronted with a number of gruesome incidents around the canals. She calls in the help of the retired Visser, who once arrested a serial killer who made the canals unsafe. They are faced with an opponent who seems to possess superhuman powers.

Thirty years after the murders from Amsterdamned, a copycat is once again making the canals of Amsterdam unsafe. Tara [Holly Mae Brood] leads the investigation, but could really use the help of Eric Visser [Huub Stapel], who led the investigation back then. Maas was clearly too lazy to come up with anything new and turns out to be the biggest copycat! The opening is largely a carbon copy of that from Amsterdamned, there's another speedboat chase through the Amsterdam canals, and many of the cast members from back then make cameo appearances. Stapel is passable, but otherwise the acting is as abominable as the ridiculous script and the stale jokes. The advertising for our capital and the canal water passing for beer are blatantly obvious! First Dutch film in IMAX.

Finally, Amsterdamned II is here! The first one is a Dutch (cult) film classic, so I was very curious about this legacy sequel.
Huub Stapel! It's so great to see him back in the role of Eric Visser. I also loved the chemistry between him and Holly Brood. The jokes were in typical Dick Maas style.
Some CGI shots aren't very strong, but that's to be expected from a Dutch production. Personally, I wasn't bothered by it, but I can understand people having different opinions. The film is less exciting and slower-paced than the first one; two more kills midway through would have been nice. Some actors didn't come across as very believable, but I find that with many other films and series. The action scenes were a lot of fun, and the drone shots are beautifully done.
My issue is the ending, especially a scene they were filming last year that we didn't see (which I was looking forward to). The swimming competition scene; last year Huub was interviewed by Shownieuws (?) and they were filming this scene at the time, where the participants are attacked in the water. Because the film ends so abruptly here, I get the feeling this might be before the beginning of part 3? (which was also hinted at in an interview). Because I found it unbelievable that the murderer is the daughter of the maniac from the first film, especially because there's an underwater drone and people being thrown from the water onto the dock, etc. Also, the mask looked different. There wasn't enough explanation at the end.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Amsterdamned II. I'm curious to see what else we can expect from Dick Maas in the future.

Not worth it. Huub Stapel gave a decent performance. But the rest of the actors (if you can even call them that) were so abominable that the already simple script was completely ruined. Absolutely cringeworthy!
