Jenseits der Blauen Grenze plot
Hanna (Lena Urzendowsky) is a competitive swimmer in the GDR. She dreams of one day standing on the top podium at the Olympic Games. However, when she becomes a target of the state, she gives up her dream of a professional career to leave the GDR behind and flee to the West with her unruly boyfriend Andreas (Willi Geitmann). In the summer of 1989, their time has come: they want to swim across the Baltic Sea. Only 50 kilometers separate them from freedom and a small cord around their wrists connects them.
