Hospital colleagues Marianne [Andrea Brœin Hovig] and Tor [Tayo Cittadella Jacobsen] contemplate the sense and nonsense of love, intimacy, and relationships in long, statically filmed conversations. Marianne falls for a passenger [Morten Svartveit], and Tor sets his sights on Bjørn [Lars Jacob Holm], an older man carrying a heavy burden. A textbook example of what Hitchcock aptly described as "shots of talking heads" interspersed with beautiful shots of Oslo. Visually, terribly dull. Only the last quarter offers any drama. The second film in a trilogy that begins with Sex and ends with Dreams.

While Joachim Trier was making his Oslo trilogy, Dag Johan Haugerud was secretly doing the same. I liked this second installment (even) a little better than the first film, Sex.

Films like this logically rely on content, dialogue, and acting—and they excel in all three areas. The theme, which overlaps considerably with the first installment, is beautifully explored through two main characters and their encounters. Marianne's blonde friend hovers around and seems rather blocked/frustrated in her desires. The other two explore them freely, seemingly relatively unconcerned and carefree—knowing perfectly well who they are.

Here too, the calm, mature way in which the sometimes complex situations are discussed is striking. More than in Sex, I found the pacing of both the film and the dialogue to be a bit better. The ferry as a kind of neutral meeting place was a nice touch.
