Artist Jamie Wyeth is the son of Andrew Wyeth, one of America's most acclaimed artists. As a member of a family of artists, Jamie must fight to distinguish himself from his famous father and create his own style and reputation in the 1960s. He portrayed JF Kennedy, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rudolf Nureyev and Andy Warhol, among others. The documentary shows the eccentric Wyeth at work in his studio, located on the coast of the northeastern US.

I didn't know Jamie Wyeth or his father Andrew Wyeth or grandfather NC Wyeth (or his aunt Henriette Wyeth) – all three (or four) great American realist artists – but his work in this documentary made a great impression on me. The documentary as such is not very special because the person Jamie Wyeth is not very special: we learn that he is a handsome, somewhat withdrawn man, that his disabled wife was his muse, that he was for a time captivated by Andy Warhol in whose Factory he participated and then the Russian ballet dancer Nureyev and that he mainly follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, who was depressed because he was 'only' an illustrator; Jamie is the most versatile and artistic of his family. The realism of their work made them especially popular with the general public, where Jamie does not care about the critics and goes his own way: the secret of Jamie's art is that he paints what he wants to paint (what is in his heart).
