Vroeg Verloren plot

In this documentary, writer and podcast maker Liesbeth Rasker examines the impact of her mother's early death. A quest that takes her to fellow sufferers, family members and other relatives who help her give color to the past. In order to gain insights into the impossible task of having to deal with an unbearable loss at a young age.

In 1998, Elisabeth Rasker died of cancer after a long illness. Her daughter Liesbeth, a writer, podcast maker and self-proclaimed loner, was 10 when that happened and believed for a long time that she had accepted the loss of her mother and that life had continued as normal for her too. Almost 25 years (and several visits to a psychotherapist) later, she realizes that things were not going well for her at all. Through a call she talks to people who also lost a parent at a young age. These conversations made her decide to confront both her father Frans and her sister Barbara, five years younger, with her insights and to talk openly and honestly for the first time about Elisabeth and how they as a family tried to cope with her death. A courageous, frank documentary that makes it clear how difficult it is to start a conversation about such a charged subject after such a long time, without giving (or having) the feeling that there is blame.
