Three stories about those people in three years (around 2000, 2010 and 2022) where a family member is central at each moment and the theme of being a refugee is dealt with. Especially the lawlessness that plays a role. Partly universal, partly really specific to that country. Much of what happens will not occur in the Netherlands (unless you are really illegal, yes) and that sometimes makes it a bit difficult to immediately understand what is happening. Especially in the second story when someone's husband dies and she keeps this a secret. As a viewer I don't understand that, only later in that piece does it become clear: she will be fired because the people where she works don't want the police because some things are illegal.

None of the stories really come to fruition in the 30 minutes that each part has, but they are all good enough and varied, so that there is no repetition and no boredom. Visually solid with an occasional beautiful shot. In the second story when the refugee cries in her room upstairs and the native family celebrates downstairs, all filmed from outside, also rightly the photo of the poster. And the final shot of the third story and with that the end of the story. Two grieving people and in the background the sound from the hall where those two just left. On an emotional level, definitely the best part and also ended beautifully.

Ultimately enough beauty to see in 95 minutes, although the parts do not stick well enough and the first story drags a bit too much. 3.5*.

After the American-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, many Afghans fled to Iran. This trilogy chronicles the experiences of related immigrants at 10-year intervals. The first part (**), about the exploitation of student Mohamed [Mohammad Hosseini], is indifferently acted and therefore lacks interest. The second chapter (***) concerns Leila [Hamideh Jafari], who hides the sudden death of her husband from the family she works for, because she fears deportation due to her illegal status. This segment is much better, although Jafari's performance is somewhat one-dimensional and it is a bit on the long side. The third (and best) part (****) concerns Leila's older brother Qasem [Bashir Nikzad], who is about to take Iranian nationality but is faced with a moral dilemma.

Always up for an Iranian film. A clever triptych that takes place in various time periods. The Afghan community is central, which is apparently very numerous in Iran. They are tolerated, but at the same time considered inferior citizens.

The three stories of half an hour each also cover three different generations. Especially the last part made the most impression on me. Very strong and authentic part about a man who spares his wife bad news. Good acting by the man and his pain and suffering was palpable. Strong final scene also where the contrast was phenomenally highlighted during the intimate moment between the couple and the inflammatory propagandist voice in the background.

The second story was also fine and tells the life of two illegal Afghan refugees who work as housekeepers and servants for rich Iranians. It was striking how desperate the woman must be to bend over backwards like that. I felt sorry for her.

I liked the first part the least. I wasn't so convinced by the plot. I thought it was a bit too easy. However, the exploitation and intimidation are strongly addressed here, without going over the line. I thought the intimate bond between the boy and his great love was best expressed in this part.
