Paradis Paris plot
Giovanna, a former opera star, is furious: she has been wrongly declared dead and the press is waiting. Can Mike, a British stuntman, properly shudder in the face of death as he braves it every day? Smoking kills, but Dolorès doesn't care: on her granddaughter's 15th birthday, she makes a unilateral pact with God. While trying to commit suicide, Marie-Cerise, a harassed, humiliated and depressed teenager, is kidnapped. Edouard, who has been presenting a famous crime show on TV for years, has a hard time when he is reminded of his mortality.

Good mosaic film in which the various storylines that touch each other indirectly, have death as a connecting factor. The beginning is perhaps a bit unbalanced, but the film is easy to watch. A bit quirky and Paris forms a beautiful backdrop. A small 3.5 stars.

It is an enjoyable film. However, it seems as though the film just cannot manage to find the right tone. Extremely serious matters and themes appear to be presented very lightly here, sometimes almost comically, and as a result fail to strike the right chord. This is a mosaic film, and that concept barely works here. The storyline of the stuntman who is also a father, and the relationship he has with his son, all seem contrived and, above all, clumsy.
The soprano with the conductor is beautiful, though. The girl who engages in self-harm, is in serious trouble, and gets kidnapped... goodness gracious. That is presented far too lightly. Surely that doesn't fit? Furthermore, there are a number of other storylines. Paris as a setting isn't special here either and adds nothing special.
The film's end credits might say it all. A hodgepodge with the wrong tone.
