A horror twist on the familiar story, albeit with different characters and, of course, a much smaller budget. Director Leigh Scott solves this by selling The Little Mermaid as a horror film, even though those elements remain relatively tame. Fortunately, Mike Markoff is convincing in a rather thankless lead role that doesn't demand too much of him, but unfortunately, he's pitted against an overacting Lydia Helen, who thus portrays a very clichéd siren. The biggest missed opportunity, however, is the substantive mystery, because the plot is given away after 10 minutes, and then the viewer is mainly left waiting for the characters to figure out the very obvious clue themselves. It all remains quite captivating (despite the bare visuals), but as a fan, you won't be missing much.
