Mila is instructed by a shaman to return a mythical bracelet called "Kawaturih" to "Dancing Village", a remote place in Java. Mila arrives on the island with her cousin and two friends and discovers that the village elder has died. The new protector, named Mbah Buyut, is not present. Mila awaits Mbah Buyut's return and experiences eerie events.

Director Kimo Stamboel seems to have settled comfortably into horror films that are more probing and less focused on outlandish ideas. This sequel (actually a prequel) to the 2022 horror hit is another project that relies heavily on atmosphere and draws heavily on the paranormal. Unfortunately, this also means the return of the same antagonist, Aulia Sarah, as Badarawuhi, who must instill fear by constantly deploying strange dance moves. As a horror fan, the appeal of these kinds of concepts completely escapes me. Fortunately, there is a strongly constructed environment and well-conceived cinematography, which compensate for the mediocre acting and the drawn-out lead-up. Incidentally, this origin story doesn't add much to the existing universe, so this is anything but mandatory viewing for horror enthusiasts.
