Nora, Ginny and Mary have been best friends since they were inseparable at summer camp. Over the years, they've seen less and less of each other, so when the opportunity arises to get together for a summer camp reunion, they all jump at it. Some reluctantly and others excitedly. Their lives may not be what they imagined, but one thing is for sure: Nora, Ginny and Mary need each other and summer camp reminds them why.

Jennifer [Kathy Bates], Nora [Diane Keaton] and Mary [Alfre Woodard] met as teenagers at summer camp and have been best friends for more than 50 years. Due to circumstances, contact has diminished somewhat in recent years and that is why Jennifer persuades her best friends to visit a summer camp reunion. There they notice that 'The Pretty Committee' of Jane [Beverly D'Angelo], Evelyn [Victoria Rowell] and Judy [Maria Howell] is still obsessed with appearance and they renew contact with Tommy [Dennis Haysbert] and Stevie [Eugene Levy ]. Jennifer is an inveterate bachelor, Nora a widow and workaholic and Mary is stuck in a loveless marriage and the ladies naturally gain new insights into the field of love. The humor arises from the rivalry between the female trios and from people over 60 who are allowed to behave like little children for a few days. Betsy Sodaro is a disaster as the irritating camp counselor, but Bates saves the day in the surprisingly moving final scene of this otherwise unpretentious and unremarkable ensemble comedy.
