Nice Ladies plot

With the escalation of Russia's war against Ukraine, the seemingly unbreakable bond of an infectious cheerleading team of 50-somethings called “Nice Ladies” is tested. Team member Sveta flees to the Netherlands with her family, while captain Valia and coach Nadia remain behind in the repeatedly bombed city of Kharkiv. They face impossible choices between motherland and grandmotherhood, between staying and fleeing.

Portrait of 'Nice Ladies', a group of Ukrainians over fifty preparing for the European Cheerleading Championships against much younger competitors. After the Russian invasion, Ponomarova, who lives in the Netherlands, changed her original plans and helped Sveta find a temporary home in Amsterdam. Sveta keeps herself physically and mentally going by continuing to train faithfully in the hope that she can later join her team to participate in a tournament in Riga. Emphasizes the importance of a concrete goal for temporary refugees as well as the importance of human contact and solidarity with friends.
