Libertate plot
In the chaotic days of the December 1989 revolution that overthrew the communist regime, the Transylvanian city of Sibiu becomes the scene of a violent attack on a police unit that quickly escalates into a bloody confrontation between soldiers, police, civilian protests and representatives of the secret police. In a desperate attempt to escape the siege, police chief Viorel is captured by the army. They throw him into an empty swimming pool, along with hundreds of prisoners accused of being terrorists.

Viorel Stanese [Alex Calangiu] is an honest police officer who is lumped in with the dreaded Sekuritate and other people who are arbitrarily labeled as terrorists and held in a swimming pool for days after a demonstration at the police station that got out of hand. . Compelling, realistic and as confusing as the revolution must have been at the time, but Giurgiu holds the attention with his attention to detail and Calangiu is the compass that guides you through the chaos of the moment. It earned Giurgiu a lot of praise, but this film failed to earn any of the 14 nominations for a Gopo Award in its own country!
