Onvoorwaardelijk plot

When the introverted Dutch Yolanda meets the American prisoner Billy, she immediately falls in love. Their only contact is through letters, yet their love seems unconditional. Even when Billy kills a guard and ends up on death row, Yolanda continues to love him. In this documentary, Elena Lindemans investigates what drives Yolanda to enter into a relationship with someone who committed a heinous crime and whom she can only love from a distance.

Yolanda was a single woman in her forties with an office job and an apartment when she responded to a call to send Christmas wishes to American prisoners. She came into contact with Billy Tracy, who has quite a feat. Yolanda and a voice actor read excerpts from the letters that Yolanda and Billy wrote to each other over a period of years while Lindemans films Yolanda during her daily routine. Soon a Lat relationship arises, a plan to meet each other and even an engagement. But during correspondence, Billy crosses the line several times in prison, causing his original sentence (2 life sentences + 30 years) to be extended and eventually even commuted to the death penalty. Candid, but fairly unambiguous in style and not very surprising.
