What Jennifer Did plot

In 2010, a violent crime rocked a quiet Canadian town. Mysterious intruders managed to enter the home of Vietnamese immigrants, terrorizing the family and leaving a traumatized daughter as the only witness. Neighbors and friends described the family as hospitable, generous and hardworking. How could they be targeted? This documentary uses footage of police interrogations and testimonies from those involved to unravel a web of complexities that no one saw coming.

Fairly strong documentary. The title already gives something away, but as a viewer you still remain glued to the TV to know what exactly happened and what the motives are. The makers know how to convey this very well and allow the mystery to slowly unravel. 3.5/4.0

It becomes clear quite quickly what Jennifer has done, but that leaves the somewhat sensationalist gimmick that they have access to interrogation material. It reinforces my belief that the true crime genre benefits from the fact that some countries have to reveal so much of criminal cases. But do you really learn anything about the disturbed family relationships in this family or how a teenage girl can do something so horrible? Not really, actually. The most interesting questions remain unanswered.
