Tegengif plot

Casper van Eijck is professor of surgery and former club doctor at Feyenoord. He fights for good therapy against pancreatic cancer in an unconventional way, a fight that already starts with a backlog because many of his patients can no longer be cured. His search for a drug to curb the pancreas is one with peaks and valleys, not least because of the strict safety rules. The documentary shows how Casper continues to fight determinedly against the disease and for his patients.

On October 27, 2023, Prof. Dr. Casper van Eijck was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his work as a club doctor at paid football clubs Sparta and Feyenoord, his services to medical research, but also because of the compassionate treatment of his patients, many of whom he was unable to to rescue. A bittersweet moment, because in this documentary Van Eijck complains about the fact that neither the government nor a foundation such as the KWF offered him the financial resources to support his research into a potential cure for pancreatic cancer, while that was the number 2 cause of death. Van Eijck from 2018 and deserves particular praise because – with the help of Van Eyck and other specialists – he has managed to make problems and possible solutions clear to laypeople, even though the design is very conventional, with many talking heads.
