Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell can't wait to spend the summer with her friends in Spain before heading to college. But when her mother decides to go to Thailand, Tanya is forced to stay home with her brothers and sister. After the unexpected death of their elderly nanny, Tanya gets a job with the confident and ambitious Rose. Juggling work, family and a complicated romance, Tanya is faced with the responsibilities of adulthood at the expense of her summer off.

Now laid off due to a conflict at work, one mother [Patricia Williams] decides to spend two months at a yoga retreat in Thailand. She doesn't trust her 17-year-old daughter Tanya [Simone Joy Jones] enough to care for sister Melissa [Ayaamii Sledge] and brothers Kenny [Donielle T. Hansley Jr.] and Zack [Carter Young] and asks the very elderly (and very conservative) neighbor Mrs. Stura [June Squibb] to keep an eye on things. When he dies unfortunately, the children decide not to inform their mother. Instead, Tanya takes the opportunity to prove herself by landing a job at a fashion company under false pretenses. Loosely based on the 1991 black comedy of the same name, but nothing remains of the melancholy. Instead, we get a formulaic comedy with caricatured teenagers and a superficial love story to further emphasize the lack of originality. Squibb is downright awful.
