Politically true biography about the first African-American woman to run for president of America. Lots of political dialogues. I like this genre of films, but I had the feeling that it all remained a bit superficial. Had little affection for the characters. What I did like is the 70's atmosphere with ditto soundtracks. The fact that it was true is a plus. Nice binoculars without any real highlights. 3*

A somewhat lackluster biography about the groundbreaking career of an American politician. In my opinion it could have been a bit spicier.

The whole basic trope of the strong, flexible leader clearly illustrates how Hollywood has been steeped in extreme identity-political obsessive thinking for years, it's no longer about quality, knowledge and sincerity, it's purely about skin color and gender and with these two boxes neatly ticked, Shirley is the ultimate example of the disadvantaged minority group and oppressed sex who of course must be perfect for that reason alone, at least that's how she is naturally portrayed, something that is of course far from realistic.

Her husband is also the perfect husband and their marriage is also described as almost perfect in the film, except for some disagreements. I was also very surprised to read in the credits that they were divorced 5 years later, but it is not really surprising, she takes on the male role but when she is attacked she expects her husband to suddenly take on the male role.

A role he had clearly given up long ago.

Regina King plays her role well, Tomson has described it well above, her character remains superficial because the subject is approached very superficially, the political system is also not criticized anywhere and after seeing the last few elections there, that is really necessary
