Broertje Is Verdwaald plot

Four-year-old Léon Wesly was arrested by the Nazis in 1943 and murdered in Auschwitz. 81 years later, the lives of his older sister who saw it happen and that of the brother and sister born after the war are still completely dominated by this traumatic event. The story of Little Brother is told through hand-drawn 2D animations, which were like a dark fairy tale throughout the film.

Four-year-old Leon Wesly was gassed in Auschwitz on February 11, 1944, after NSB members from the street betrayed him. His older sister Elin was witnesses, twins Taval and Benoît were born after the war. For this documentary they come together in Maastricht, visit the neighborhood where they lived and other places that evoke memories of that time. Conversations show how much the story and memory of “little brother” still influences the lives of his relatives. The most important points were made within half an hour and it is unclear why Hölscher did not stick to that playing time. The most impressive moment in this far too long documentary is Elin's reconstruction of the day she lost her brother.
