Sam Mankeshaw is one of the first cadets to be trained at the Indian Military Academy. After graduation, he becomes a second lieutenant in the 12th Frontier Force Regiment, Ferozpur and soon meets Sillo Bode whom he later marries. In 1942 during the Second World War he was promoted to major and sent to Burma where he was seriously wounded during the battle of Sitlang Bridge but survived the attack and was decorated for bravery. In 1947 after the partition, he was convinced by his colleague Major Yahya Khan to join the Pakistani army, but he opted for the Indian army. Mankeshaw's achievements don't stop there and he continues to play an important role later on.
