Powstaniec 1863 plot

General Stanislaw Brzóska fights against the Russian Empire. Through a series of events, the titular insurgent becomes the head of the longest-fighting insurgent unit and, thanks to the first successful attack on a Russian military garrison, becomes its supreme officer. Called "Ghost" by the Russians, he escaped death several times at the hands of officer Manukin, known as the "Executioner of Podlasie". During the next two years of the uprising, he resists capture, giving Polish society hope of liberation from Tsarist partition and sowing panic among the troops of the Russian Empire.

Impressive, moving and necessary film, in the words of Jerzy Hoffman, director of the Sienkiewicz trilogy. The film tells the story of the January Uprising of 1863 from the Polish perspective this time. And that's actually how it should be. The heroes of the uprising deserve to be remembered with special honor. Fabijański portrays a brilliant Brzóska who manages to stay out of the grasp of the Russian aggressor for a long time. Historically speaking, nothing to complain about. The low score on IMDb is therefore a mystery.
