Rob Peace plot
Robert Peace is an intellectually curious and restlessly entrepreneurial African-American boy with a divided life. Raised from an early age by his devoted mother, Rob also lives in the shadow of his father, who is imprisoned for a double murder. While working in a university research lab, Rob tries to raise money for his father's defense by selling marijuana.

Shaun Douglas [Jay Will] was still a child when his father [Chiwetel Ejiofor] was convicted of a double murder. Shaun's mother [Mary J. Blige] protects Shaun by changing his name to Rob Peace. Rob develops into an intelligent, promising student, but his father continues to pressure him over the years to help him get released. This has a major impact on Rob's future prospects and his personality. Ejiofor keeps you in the dark until the end about whether Rob's father is guilty. It is therefore difficult to understand why Rob allows himself to be unconditionally manipulated by his father, especially since Ejiofor's scenario offers little insight into Will's emotions and thoughts.
