Pan Tadeusz plot

A Polish émigré in Paris recalls the idyllic past in his homeland. This past is set against the backdrop of Napoleon's upcoming war with Russia and the division of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Two feuding noble families must resolve their old conflicts. However, they are able to unite in their patriotic and rebellious efforts to free the country they love from Russian domination.

The Polish emigrant is of course none other than Adam Mickiewicz, whose romantic epic Mister Thaddeus is being adapted for film here. At least what has been found after the original version of more than three hours. The poem from 1834 was the source of inspiration for the numerous Polish uprisings in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The film's premiere in November 1928 was on the occasion of the celebration of independence and was attended by President Mościcki and Marshal Pilsudski. The latter would not have liked the film. Presumably because of the short battle scene. Despite this flaw, the story remains epic with a fantastic bear hunt (animal friendly with an actor in a bear suit ) as one of the highlights.
